We left our hotel at 10:00 this morning. We made a gas stop, $4.88/gallon, and headed north to the 1851 Eagle Harbour Lighthouse on the coast of Lake Superior. We toured the lighthouse and saw exhibits of how light keepers lived. The lighthouse was automated in 1980 so it was no longer necessary to have a lighthouse keeper. Today it is operated and maintained by the coast guard. It was very interesting.

It is run by Monks and everything is homemade in the Monastery.

We did notice today, however, while driving we had no cells on our phones and no signals on our GPS, so you know we were really in the upper tip of Michigan.

ReplyDeleteThe Jamaican cake from the Jampot was okay. We’re all glad we only got a small one to share. We also got a poppyseed muffin and shared that this morning. It was very good. Vern and I also bought jam—I think it’s some kind of berry and cherry jam. We’ll be anxious to try it when we get home.

ReplyDeleteYesterday I was so impressed with the beautiful scenery. The vastness of Lake Superior, it appeared to go on forever. The colorful lighthouses, dotted along the coast.Standing on a buff and seeing lush green woodlands, as far as the eye could see. It has been a wonderful experience. Dawn

ReplyDeleteOh, Nancy, can you believe—-not one quilt shop have I been in! I had some written down that I wanted to see, but when we were in that town, it was either closed permanently or closed at the time I could go! Oh, well…..
