We left the quaint little town of Frankenmuth at 8:15 this morning and 208 miles later arrived at Shepler's Dock in St. Ignace to take a boat to Mackinac Island. We went on the Mackinac Bridge to get there. It is the longest suspension bridge in the Northern Hemisphere, just short of 5 miles. It took three years to complete. Once at the dock, we waited for the 12:30 boat because that was the scenic route by the great Mackinac Bridge.
Once we were off the boat our luggage was taken to the hotel on a horse and buggy and we walked. After a few minutes, torrential rain with high winds started up! We got shelter under one of the store awning and so did everyone else. Finally it stopped and we continued on our way.
Looks beautiful! Can’t imagine what it’s like to not have cars there. Of course you would find a way to squeeze in ice cream for dinner!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to see everything people do with bikes, carts, and horse and buggy’s—pick up garbage, deliver suitcases, deliver food and supplies to restaurants, etc.
DeleteLovely and so picturesque! Happily discovered the Mackinac Bridge Cam and have been intrigued by the very very very long suspension! Can’t wait to hear of tomorrow’s adventures!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nancy, it’s been quite an experience! Glad you’re enjoying this trip with us!😉
DeleteWhat a fun filled day you had! We loved Frankenmuth and went bonkers over Mackinac Island! We enjoyed lunch at the Grand Hotel…have pictures enjoying the rockers on the porch! We also toured the whole hotel…not really sure we were supposed to be doing that, but it was so unique! Continued good times with safe travels! LOVE, Penny & Cal 💝💝💝💝🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
